Luijao - Antler Town
Chongqing, China
Urban Planner who worked on the master plan for the Lujiao - Antler Town in Chongqing, China. Adam spent a week on site for an intensive charrette workshop, where he helped to create site plan options, plan graphics, exhibits, and narratives. After returning, Adam helped refine the narratives and prepare the final report for publication.
The Lujiao - Antler Town was envisioned as a safe, healthy, and connected community that blends seamlessly with Chongqing’s mountainous landscape. The plan focused on creating walkable neighborhoods, each with everyday amenities like shops, schools, civic buildings, and community spaces within a five-minute walk. A major rail stop to the southwest served as the anchor for a higher-density, transit-oriented area, while view corridors, wind patterns, and open spaces shaped the placement of streets and buildings to take full advantage of the natural setting.
Access roads were designed as welcoming gateways, while urban boulevards connected lakeside areas, mixed-use districts, and quiet residential enclaves with space for cars, light rail, shuttles, bikes, and pedestrians. A scenic loop lined with maple trees tied the whole community together, offering a multimodal route with sidewalks, bike trails, and transit. The result was a vision for a vibrant, livable, and sustainable place that connects people to each other and to the landscape around them.
