Jindee
Wanneroo, Western Australia
Designed by Studio LFA
The studioLFA designed Jindee, located in Wanneroo, Western Australia was nominated for a 2011 Congress for New Urbanism Charter Award. The project, whose inspiration is drawn from the roots of great urbanism, is a fine example of the architectural traditions of Australia, while providing its residents with all of the conveniences and amenities of modern living.
The Jindee project is one that is a result of groundbreaking development on the Australian continent as it is the first to fully embrace the principles of traditional development. The focus of this movement promotes the integration of traditional neighborhood design into modern day urban planning defining a relationship between local historical development patterns with the very best of sustainable planning for the future. Upon its implementation, the Jindee plan will result in one of Australia’s finest environmental urban development initiatives.
Composed of a total of 112 hectares of undulating landform, the plan is made up of several easily identifiable neighborhoods subtle in design yet sophisticated in detail, all of which form a special relationship between the urban fabric and the adjacent ocean. These neighborhoods are interconnected by a central axis with vistas through the plan to the ocean, and are directly influenced by the local Cottesloe, Freemantle, and Rottnest Island urban and architectural precedents.
